Microsoft unveiled its latest technology, a universal controller that rivals the PS4 and Nintendo. Given Microsoft's capability and its innovation of the Xbox, Microsoft unveiled its latest technology. A standard controller that has the d-pad along with several buttons, however, guess what. It is for one-handed individuals as well. This latest technology encourages users that are either impaired physically or mentally to enjoy games using this controller. This controller will allow users to live in their glory days, the days where sleek and modern controllers never existed and it can be used as both a mouse and controller. This gives users the ability to interact and play without the standard mouse and keyboard combination. Did we mention that this item is very well priced? Microsoft introduced Microsoft SideWinder Precision Pro for the windows machine as a competitor to the mouse and keyboard with a friendly cost point. This inclusion of such innovative product will let users relieve the cutting edge technology Microsoft once created. This technology also uses Microsoft's cutting edge driver installation. As soon as you plug in your Microsoft SideWinder Precision Pro (for Windows) it will automatically download whatever drivers are necessary to run this product!
@Jolaes76, glad to hear about the Windows 98 issue. Regarding the driver link, that seem's to be what I'm after so I'll check it out. Unable to download it now as I'm typing this from my mobile. Just hope the link isn't dead because the sites I found all had dead links or tried to lead me to driver updating programs.

@Stiletto, I totally understand companies asking users to pay for their services but in my experience, if you search around hard enough or ask others for help (eg:vogons) almost all drivers are obtainable for free without the need to use driver installers, register with the website or pay the company money for something that should be obtainable for free. Why a large company like Microsoft cant keep their drivers available for download on their website is beyond me. Even creative is slowly going down this same path unfortunately. At least companies like nVidia seem to still care about their customers.
AFAIK nobody has made the joystick port force feedback sidewinder work with anything newer than Windows 98SE. In Windows XP it will work as a rather stiff joystick but there are no FF supporting drivers.
Got the force feedback version, too. Worked out of the box with Win10 64 bit and the Windows Vista Software from Logitec driver download. Force feedback actively worked while in the joystick calibration part of the software.
those sidewinders were pretty cutting edge. they used optical sensors (the type normally found on mice) and had higher than 8 bit resolution (at least on x/y). i do believe they had a fallback compatibility mode. if i recall it used the midi pins for the computer to talk to the stick, and the stick would send back data on the button pins (one being the clock and the others being a 3-bit parallel interface). cool stuff. post sidewinder sticks had more features, more buttons/axes/hats/etc. but the quality took a sharp dive. i went through about 3 saitek hotas units, which gave me a year and a half on average each and i finally ended up with some ch gear that has lasted me about 12 years of fairly heavy use. i still use my throttle and pedals a lot, but my stick has a little too much play to be useful in anything but single player games on low difficulty settings. a few years ago i found a sidewinder in a bin at a thrift store. i was unable to figure out the protocol and just gutted it. the handle became part of the joystick of DOOM. _of_Nihil/Joystick%20of%20Doom/IMG_0065copy.jpg
I am in the process of trying to get a Sidewinder joystick to work with all of the usability of programming the buttons. Just plugging it in to my Win10 PC, I can get the joystick directions to work and button2. But the few downloads I have found of the Sidewinder Precision USB Game Controller Software wont run, install or anything on Win10. Not even in compatibility mode.I am looking for a hack or other controller that may be out there for accessing the buttons and assigning commands or key press to them.I am using Second Life through Firestorm for my trials.
